QED are highly respected as a particularly strong brand for speaker cables. They effectively invented the concept of hi-fi speaker cables with the introduction of QED 79 Strand back in the 1970's. More recently QED Silver Anniversary has been a regular winner of What Hi-Fi Magazine's speaker cable of the award.
QED tend to dominate the market for affordable speaker cables around £5.00 per metre and continue to do so with their very successful Silver Anniversary XT speaker cable. This is particularly popular in Home Cinema systems where it is often paired with QED Silver Micro for the rear speakers.
Most of QED's speaker cables are silver plated so they suit users who favour a bright, dynamic sound from their system. The higher end QED speaker cables such as XT and Genesis make use of a complicated construction that benefits the bass performance. But this raises the manufacturing cost and is only afforable for higher end systems. However, QED have recently made use of this style of construction in their Revelation speaker cable. This enables Revelation to deliver high end quality at a much more afforable price.
The recommended method for terminating QED speaker cables is their Airloc system. This involves the fitting of plugs using a high pressure compression tool that effectively achieves a cold weld connection. This completely seals the join from atmospheric effects such as oxidisation. It also enables 100% connections to be performed over and over again without failures. The downside is that it requires special tools and thus has to be performed by ourselves rather than the customer.
