Comparative review of QED Qunex2, Van Den Hul D102, Merlin Chopin and Chord Chorus

We thought it would be interesting to compare a a range of cables of increasing cost and summarise our conclusions about the differences between these cables of vastly varying prices. They were all tested on our relatively high-end system with a Resolution Audio Opus 21 CD player, Naim amplifiers, Linn Kann speakers, Tannoy ST50 Supertweeters and a subtly used REL sub-base.

We did most of our listening with Eric Clapton Unplugged. This is a wonderfully recorded live album, largely acoustic, with an immense amount of subtlety which enables good equipment to show what it made of by revealing detailed nuances of the performance. We listed to Sting Mercury Falling, a largely electric album which is brilliantly put together and capable of creating spine tingling moments when reproduced well.

The prices of these cables are as follows:

  • QED Qunex 2 RRP £
  • Van Den Hul D102 RRP £90.00
  • Merlin Chopin RRP £85.00
  • Chord Chorus £200.00
