Chord and QED have competed hard for the sizeable market for speaker cables around £5 per metre. Chord's current cable in this space is the Chord Carnival SilverScreen speaker cable.
When listening to the Chord Carnival SilverScreen you can expect a dynamic, revealing sound that brings energy to your music. Although the product name includes the word silver, the cable itself is pure copper with no silver plating so you need not fear an overbright sound that is sometimes associated with silver plated cables.
The Carnival SilverScreen pushes forward the performance that can be obtained at this affordable price level.
To our ears the Chord Carnival SilverScreen has the slight edge on the competing QED Silver Anniversary XT. However SilverScreen speaker cable is quite a bulky cable at 10mm diameter so some users may prefer XT simply because it is easier to hide. The size of this cable is the only downside of what is otherwise faultless cable at this price. On the plus side the cable is very flexible.
The success of this speaker cable in winning awards from What HiFi is quite remarkable. It has been awarded speaker cable of the year for three consecutive years. This is all the more impressive given the competitiveness of the speaker cable sector.
What HiFi Five Stars May 2008: "The result is a detailed and authoritative cable that has the refinement and dynamics to work well in a wide range of systems. A truly standout cable for the money."
