'EXCELLENT UPGRADE FROM THE CHEAP & NASTY CABLES' |
|
| Strengths: |
Excellent low frequency response with movies and music, much more bass with far better clarity and composure to the sound. It can handle the bass with thunder and explosions in movies very well and with music - it managed to keep up with the Beastie Boys pretty good too. |
| Weaknesses: |
None. Considering the improvement to the subwoofers performance and the benefit over the cheapo cable I couldn't give a weakness. |
| Overall: |
I have a Mission MS8 subwoofer driven by a Marantz SR4200 receiver. The original cable I was using was a cheapo from a dealer which I bought just to save money and get me up and running. However, the sound from the sub was always a bit of let-down compared to the rest of my setup so I decided to get a better cable.
The improvement to the performance of the sub using the new QED cable has to be heard to be believed. For example - the opening scene of "The Bourne Identity" has a thunder storm which is a great test for the surround kit but the sub really shows what it can do now it has a decent cable.
Before buying it my only concern was the miniature size; in that I was sceptical how it could perform compared to the full size subwoofer cables. I was anxious in terms of the sound performance because I needed an 11 metre run of cable to get to the sub, but also the magnetic shielding as this was a major problem with the cheapo cable too.
I needed to run the cable under a carpet so I chose this cable as the small size was ideal. As it turns out the magnetic shielding is very effective and as I've said, the sound is a major improvement.
It has turned out to be an inexpensive upgrade which I should have done much sooner. I got the cable at a great price from HiFi cables in a sale. |
