'GREAT VALUE'

Strengths:

Detail, dynamics, transparency, close to neutral

Weaknesses:

Just a shade bright in some contexts? Not a great problem.

Overall:

This cable runs between a 13" Macbook and a Cambridge DacMagic, largely used for listening to the iPlayer live stream for classical on Radio 3. Overall impression is excellent - spacious and detailed with unrestrained dynamics, v.apparent on a live prom of Shostakovich 11! V.G. acoustic ambience too. Compared to Kimber USB and a QED ref. Optical it was a little brighter but this is usually beneficial, just be careful with matching. I liked Optichord enough to buy a 3 meter one later for easier computer access - no audible degradation over 1 meter! This is in a high-res system including ATC amps and Harbeth C7s and some v. expensive interconnects - the Optichord shows no real weaknesses. If you need it, buy it!

'DOES WHAT IT SAYS ON HTE PACKET!'

Strengths:

Works well as used between two pieces of Yamaha equipment giving a pleasing and detailed sound.

Weaknesses:

None found.

Overall:

Within my limited experience of optical cables this one seems to give good value for money with good construction and sound.

'GREAT UPGRADE TO SOUND'

Overall:

For not much more than an entry level cable, I have found that this is a vast improvement over the 20 quid cable I had before. There is a lot more detail in the sound from the DVD player - very noticeable.
